(CNN) — It’s called the Grand Renaissance Dam — and the clue is in the name.

With some 8,500 laborers working around the clock on its construction, the imposingly-named dam is surely one of Africa’s most ambitious infrastructure projects, reaffirming Ethiopia’s ambitions of becoming a big regional player and a major exporter of power.

VANCOUVER, BC – October 19, 2015 — Ethio Abay Development Association of BC (EADABC) will be holding a fundraising event to raise funds for the GERD project.

Extraordinary guests of honour will be on the stage to explain about the GERD project, Ethiopia’s development efforts, and Ethiopia’s Diaspora engagement in the development of the country.
